This is one of the “icon” of Bandung. It is a masterpiece of the Creator of the Universe, created in Tatar Sunda. Adding beautiful Parahiangan: Mount Tangkuban Parahu.
I remember the legend of Sunda, Sangkuriang Sakti, who kicked his homemade big-boat until ejected and fell facedown. The boat that lay it becomes a mountain, and was named Tangkuban Parahu (or Perahu), which means “Parahu” (Sundanese) means the boat, which face down (“nangkub”, Sundanese). And indeed, when viewed from a distance, Mount Tangkuban Parahu like a big boat which lay down.
Tangkuban Parahu located in Lembang area, the distance is approximately 20-30 km towards the north of the city of Bandung. When reached by motor vehicle, takes approximately 30 minutes. The surrounding area is the area covered by tea gardens and pine trees, the air is cool and comfortable, making Tangkuban Parahu become one of the favorite tourist attraction.
Height of Tangkuban Mt is 2084 m, which makes this mountain the highest mountain in Tatar Sunda. The form of this mountain is Stratovulcano with eruptive center that moved from east to west. This type of rock that is mostly excreted in the eruption of lava and sulfur, a mineral that is issued sulfur, a mineral that was issued when the mountain is not active sulfur vapor. Tangkuban Mt managed by Perum Forestry. The average daily temperature is 17 o C at noon and 2 o C at night. This mountain is an active volcano, which is under the supervision of the Directorate of Volcanology Indonesia. Evidence Tangkuban Parahu active volcano is the appearance of sulfur gases, and at the foot of the mountain there are hot springs in the area Ciater, Subang (source Wikipedia).
Tangkuban Parahu has several craters as area attractions, including Queen Crater (“Ratu”), Upas, Domas, New (“Baru”), Jurig, Rhino (Badak”), Jurian, Demon (“Siluman”) and Pangguyungan Rhino (“Badak”). Among these craters, Crater Queen is the largest crater, followed by Upas crater that is located adjacent to the crater Queen. Several crater sulfur smell smoke, there is even forbidden to descend the crater, because the smell of toxic smoke.
But it all does not become a problem for tourists who want to enjoy the masterpieces of God Almighty. Many areas that tourists used to gather with family and friends. Not infrequently some (potential) couple, making Tangkuban Parahu as the location for pre-wedding photos. And much of the picture looks beautiful and dramatic! There are many sellers of food (of course), warm clothes and souvenirs.
So, enjoy Tangkuban Parahu as long as it has not “in-action” yet. (What?!!) Hahaha ….🙂
